Ingredients:
Green peppers - Remove the seeds and cut into slices. You can also use red, green or yellow peppers for this bell pepper recipe.
Red onion - Peel and slice.
White onion - Peeled and cut lengthwise.
Extra-virgin olive oil - Adds flavor and a non-stick coating so ingredients don't stick to the fryer basket.
Sea salt - To taste.
Ground black pepper - To taste.
Garlic powder - A great way to add flavor without being overpowering.
Red pepper flakes - The best way to add spice.
How to prepare peppers and onions for the air fryer?
Carefully slice the peppers and onions. Add the sliced peppers and onions to a large bowl. Garnish onions and peppers with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder and red pepper flakes. Prepare the fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray if necessary. Add the peppers and onions to the fryer basket and fry at 400 F/200 C for 15 minutes, or until they have reached the desired tenderness. Stir peppers and onions halfway through frying. Serve immediately.
Variations
Add meat - You can easily mince and add deep-fried sausages, hot Italian sausages, Polish sausages or any other sausage of your choice. (Cook it first, then add it to the rest of the recipe).
Add sweet potatoes - This would be the perfect way to take this simple recipe and add some great flavor.
Use avocado oil - Instead of extra virgin olive oil, you can easily use avocado oil or even coconut oil.

FAQs
What's the best way to slice peppers and onions?
It's best to cut them into slices of the same size. The reasoning behind this is that they will cook evenly and at the same speed. The last thing you want is to prepare and slice the vegetables so that they cook at a different rate.
Even if you don't mind crunchy peppers or onions, they're supposed to be softer and less crunchy.
What toppings can be added to air-fried peppers and onions?
You're spoilt for choice when it comes to garnishes! Drizzling a little balsamic vinegar is never a bad idea. You can also add a pinch of salt, onion powder, red pepper flakes and so on.
Toppings aren't mandatory, but they're a great way to give peppers and onions a different taste every time.
Can you freeze cooked peppers and onions?
Yes, you can. If you want to put them in the freezer, just let them cool completely and put them in a freezer-safe bag. That way, when you're ready to eat them, you won't have to worry about preparation, just defrosting!
To defrost the mixture, place it in the fridge. It's as easy as pie.
