Banana bread is an American classic that has captured the hearts of gourmets the world over. Its origins date back to the 1930s, when it first appeared in cookery books, popularized by the need to avoid wasting over-ripe bananas. With the advent of modern cooking appliances, such as the Air Fryer, its preparation has become even simpler and faster. This soft, flavorful dessert is perfect for breakfast or a snack, and can be customized with a variety of ingredients to make it unique.
Ingredients for 4 people
- 4 ripe bananas (approx. 1.2 kg)
- 150 g sugar
- 100 g softened butter
- 2 eggs
- 200 g flour
- 1 sachet baking powder (approx. 10 g)
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 100 g walnuts (optional)
Preparation steps
- Preparing the bananas In a large bowl, mash the bananas with a fork until smooth.
- Mixing wet ingredients Add the softened butter and sugar to the banana purée. Mix well until smooth.
- Adding eggs Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract.
- Incorporation of dry ingredients In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt. Add this mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until smooth. If you wish, add the walnuts at this stage.
- Preparing the Air Fryer Preheat your Air Fryer to 160°C for 5 minutes.
- Mould preparation Grease a mould suitable for your Air Fryer with a little butter or greaseproof paper.
- Cooking Pour batter into pan and place in Air Fryer. Bake for approximately 30-35 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cooling Once baked, remove from Air Fryer and cool for 10 minutes before unmolding. Cool completely on a wire rack before cutting.
Recommended wines
To accompany your banana bread, a sweet wine like a Muscat or Sauternes can work wonders. If you prefer white wine, a lightly oaky Chardonnay will also go well with the sweet flavors of banana bread.
Possible variations
There are many variations on banana bread. You can add chocolate chips for an even more indulgent taste, or replace the nuts with pecans or almonds for a different texture. For a healthier version, you can use wholemeal flour and reduce the amount of sugar by adding spices like cinnamon or nutmeg to spice up the taste.
Chef's tips
To make your banana bread a success, make sure the bananas are ripe, as they add the necessary sweetness and flavor. Don't mix the dough too long after adding the flour, as this can make the bread dense. To check doneness, don't hesitate to do the knife test: it should come out clean. Finally, let the bread cool completely before cutting, to prevent it from crumbling. Enjoy!
